Following the Examples Of Those Who Went Before Us

“Praise be to the name of God for ever and ever; wisdom and power are His.  He changes times and seasons; He sets up kings and deposes them.  He gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to the discerning.  He reveals deep and hidden things; He knows what lies in darkness, and light dwells with Him.  I thank and praise You, O God of my fathers; You have given me wisdom and power, you have made known to me what we asked of you….” [Daniel 2:20-23]

Holy Spirit I enter Your throne room today and petition You to build up in our churches men and women like Gideon who learn to trust in You and win victories for Your kingdom with little to no resources but put all their trust in You to win the battles for them while being faithful to shine a light and blow a horn.  Give men and women the determination of Caleb that if we are faithful to believe and do our part You will give us the impossible by removing all the giants in our way.  Help us to be like Daniel and schedule time to pray and petition You for our country and our people.  Help us to be like Elisha and willing to drop everything to serve You. Help us to be like Noah, so we can find grace in Your eyes.  Help us to be like Peter who denied You three times and then humble himself to You and was then filled with the Holy Spirit to go out and speak boldly of You and accomplish mighty things spiritually to get the new church moving forward.  Help us to be like Paul who was a chief among sinners and yet when he dedicated his life to You he helped lead a revival that spread through most of the world of his time by relying on Your Holy Spirit to guide him and speak through him.  Help us to be like Lydia and open our homes to our neighbors so that people can be exposed to teachings and have fellowship that brings about accountability and unity in prayer.

Holy Spirit help us unite in prayer to the point we see miracles like when the church prayed for Peter’s release from prison. Or when they were so focused together in prayer the actual building was shaken.  Teach us the power of prayer, especially when we pray as one body and with one goal and mindset.

Help us to do everything without complaining or arguing, so that we may become blameless and pure, children of God without fault in a crooked and depraved generation, in which we shine like stars in the universe. [Philippians 2:14&15] I want to know Christ and the power of his resurrection and the fellowship of sharing in his sufferings, becoming like him in his death, and so, somehow, to attain to the resurrection from the dead. [Philippians 3:10&11] Rejoice in the Lord always. Again I will say, rejoice! Let your gentleness be known to all men.  The Lord is at hand.  Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. [Philippians 4:4-7] Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praise worthy—meditate on these things. [Philippians 4:8] In Jesus’ name, Amen.
