Foot Washing Significance

Heavenly Father, I praise You for today. I praise You for this season to remember the significance of what Christ did for us and how it changed Passover forever. I praise You for the gift of salvation and the connection through the Holy Spirit. I also appreciate the sacrifice made for each of us individually. Help me to take command of my day and shake the evil from it.

As we go through what many call Holy Week, I want to take a moment and dwell on the importance of when Christ took the time to wash the feet of the disciples. He not only did it to demonstrate humility, servitude, but also to be a lesson to all generations that we need to care for the simplest and most basic needs, no matter how dirty or stinky they may be. By washing the feet, which was a custom for the host of the home [usually done by a servant] to clean the feet of people who had walked in sandals through sandy and dirt roads to arrive at your place. This was important because people usually did not sit at tables but on cushions while eating. I would encourage anyone to go to a foot washing

service, it will humble you to have your feet washed and to wash another person’s feet. It will connect you to just how human Christ was and just how closely he could relate to us as individuals and our simplest needs.

Holy Spirit, help us to learn and grow from this lesson and be as aware of others' needs and to be a true servant of God. Help us to demonstrate love for one another and put away our pride and get our hands dirty when needed. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
