How Big does our Prayer Need to Be?

O Lord, hear me as I pray; pay attention to my groaning. Listen to my cry for help, my King and my God, for I pray to no one but you. Listen to my voice in the morning, Lord. Each morning, I bring my requests to You and wait expectantly. Oh, that You would bless me indeed, and enlarge my territory, that Your hand would be with me, and that You would keep me from evil, that I may not cause pain! [Psalm 5:1-3; 1Chronicles 4:9&10]

Holy Spirit help me to accept the teaching that You inspired Paul to write:  And now, just as you accepted Christ Jesus as your Lord, you must continue to follow him.  Let your roots grow down into him, and let your lives be built on him. Then your faith will grow strong in the truth you were taught, and you will overflow with thankfulness.  Don’t let anyone capture you with empty philosophies and high-sounding nonsense that come from human thinking and from the spiritual powers of this world, rather than from Christ.  For in Christ lives all the fullness of God in a human body.  So, you also are complete through your union with Christ, who is the head of every ruler and authority. [Colossians 2:6-10, NLT]

Holy Spirit help me to realize my salvation is not predicated on earning it but accepting it and allowing it to transform how I live. Help me to grow in my relationship with You which means I need to pray. I know and understand that there are different kinds of prayers that we pray each day. I pray throughout the day as I converse with Your Spirit so that I am aware and keep You a part of all that I do so that I do not miss a prompting. I pray in the mornings to You through my written prayers so that I can focus and claim Your word to set my day and move me forward. I pray prayers to intercede for people who are sinners, need healing, are hurting, or facing difficult times. I pray over my family and I pray for myself. When I pray in public I do my best to pray reverently but humbly and honestly before You. I do not worry about flowery speech or well-worded prayers for they do not reflect my heart or those who are praying with me. Help me to daily pray so that I am in the center of Your will and leaning into faith so that I can see the impossible become possible. Let me give you my desires and expectations and pray the desires You have for me and fulfill the expectations that You are guiding me into. Let me believe with all my heart what I pray and when I am praying it for only faith, humility, and true repentance that can touch and move You to respond. I may not know or understand Your thoughts as Isaiah pointed out but through Your word, and the inspiration of the Holy Spirit I can know Your heart. Lead me to grow in wisdom, knowledge, understanding, love, forgiveness, grace, mercy, and most of all discernment.

Therefore, let me not sleep as others do. But let me be alert and sober. For those who sleep, sleep at night, and those who get drunk, are drunk at night. But let me, who is of the day, be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love, and as a helmet, the hope of salvation. For God has not appointed me to wrath, but to obtain salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ, who died for me, so that whether I am awake or asleep, I will live together with Him. So, I will comfort myself, and edify my brothers and sisters. I will acknowledge those who labor around me, and/or are appointed over me in the Lord, and instruct me. I will esteem them very highly in love for their work’s sake. And be at peace among the members of the body of Christ. I have been exhorted, to warn those who are unruly, comfort the faint-hearted, support the weak, and be patient toward everyone. I will not render evil for evil to anyone. But always seek to do good to others. I will rejoice always. Pray without ceasing. In everything give thanks, for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning me. I will not quench the Spirit. Nor will I despise prophecies. I will examine all things. Firmly hold onto what is good. Abstain from all appearances of evil. May the very God of peace sanctify me completely. And I pray to God that my whole spirit, soul, and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. For I know that faithful is He who calls me, for He also will do it. Amen. 1 Thessalonians 5:6-24
