Heavenly Father I come before You broken. I am not who I should be. I am unworthy of the love You have demonstrated towards me. I know and acknowledge that You are the creator of the world, universe, and all that is in it. I know that Your ways are above man’s ways. I humble myself before You.
Holy Spirit I do not love my fellow man as I should and I am easily angered by them. I ask for forgiveness and for Your assistance in becoming a better follower. I ask that You help me lose the anger and find the love that I need to demonstrate to all. Help me to bring my shameful actions before You and leave them at the altar. Help me to bathe my thoughts, emotions, and desires in Your word, wisdom, and understanding.
Holy Spirit help me to get where I live by what Paul wrote: “So from now on we regard no one from a worldly point of view. Though we once regarded Christ in this way, we do so no longer. Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come. The old has gone, the new is here! All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliations: that God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ, not counting people’s sins against them. And He has committed to us the message of reconciliation. We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making His appeal through us. We implore you on Christ’s behalf: Be reconciled to God. God made Him who had no sin to be sin for us so that in Him we might become the righteousness of God.” [2 Corinthians 5:16-21] I realize I am not there yet. I realize that love right now is more foreign than it should be to me. I really don’t care for most people as I should. Help me to allow You to change my heart.
Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience. Holy Spirit help us to bear with each other and forgive whatever grievances we may have against one another. Teach us to forgive as the Lord forgave us. And over all these virtues help us to put on love which binds them all together in perfect unity. Let the peace of Christ rule in our hearts, since as members of one body we are called to peace. Let us be thankful. Let the word of Christ dwell in us richly as we teach and admonish one another with all wisdom, and as you sing psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs with gratitude in our hearts to God. And whatever we do, whether in word or deed, help us to do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him. Amen. Colossians 3:12-17
