Heavenly Father I am coming before You today and asking for forgiveness. I realize I am a sinner and need You to be King in my life, not me. I am going to pray and follow what Your word says to clean out my heart, make me an earthly temple for You, and start living as an adopted child.
Holy Spirit guide me as I pray the following verses to guide my heart and to help me believe: If I confess my sin, He is faithful and just and will forgive me of my sins and purify me from all unrighteousness. As I declare with my mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in my heart that God raised Him from the dead, I will then know I am saved. For it is with my heart that I believe and am justified, and it is with my mouth that I am to profess my faith and so I am then saved. As scripture says, “Anyone who believes in Him will never be put to shame.” For there is no difference between Jew or Gentile—the same Lord is Lord of all and richly blesses all who call on Him, for, “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” And just like the woman that everyone wanted to stone and then left when Christ challenged them by writing in the sand and telling them the one with no sin to cast the first stone, I believe Christ tells me, “Neither do I condemn you; go and sin no more.” [1 John 1:9; Romans 10:9-13; John 8:3-11]
Help me to remember what David prayed and make it my prayer also: Have mercy on me, O God, according to Your lovingkindness; according to the abundance of Your compassion, blot out my transgressions. Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin. For I acknowledge my transgressions and my sin is ever before me. Against You, You only, have I sinned, and done this evil in Your sight, so that You are justified when You speak, and You are blameless when You judge. I was brought forth in my iniquity and sin, my mother conceived me. You desire truth in the inward parts, and in the hidden part, You make me know wisdom. Purify me with hyssop, and I will be clean; wash me, and I will be whiter than snow. Make me hear joy and gladness, that the bones that You have broken may rejoice. Hide Your face from my sins, and blot out all my iniquities. Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me. Do not cast me away from Your presence, and do not take Your Holy Spirit from me. Restore to me the joy of Your salvation, and uphold me with Your willing spirit. Then I will teach transgressors Your ways, and sinners will return to You. Deliver me from bloodguiltiness, O God, God of my salvation, and my tongue will sing aloud of Your righteousness. O Lord, open my lips, and my mouth will declare Your praise. For You do not desire sacrifice, or I would give it; You do not delight in burnt offering. The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit; a broken and a contrite heart, O God, You will not despise. In the precious name of Jesus, Amen. [Psalm 51:1-17]
