Part 7: The Gift of Discerning Spirits

Heavenly Father I praise You for having the Holy Spirit move me to pray over the people who are given the different gifts mention in 1 Corinthians 12. I praise You for helping me to dig deeper to understand the importance of these gifts and why You would give people these in order to help the body grow and be successful. I praise You for the people You bless with the gift of a discerning spirit.

Holy Spirit I pray for the people who are given a discerning spirit for they must be very close to You. I pray that they keep their lives in order with Your principles so that they are always ready to listen to You when You tell them something about a person or situation. These people are the ones who will back true prophets and expose the false ones. They are also the ones who will tell of the potential of a person before they are placed in a position or why they should not be placed there. Help pastors to see the wisdom of keeping these people close to their inner circle so they can make wise decisions about people to put in place over others. They will also be the one to help pastors understand their own motives before proceeding so that they stay on the right course of leading and feeding the congregation and witnessing to the community.

Holy Spirit help me to support the people with a discerning spirit gift and pray for them to stay in tune with You. I ask that You help me to pray power, strength and wisdom into their lives. Help me to pray for pastors to understand the value of these people and how to use them correctly in their ministry. Let me pray in a way that they will be successful in helping the churches be the most effective they can be in reaching their communities and demonstrating Your power and wisdom.

Now I urge you, brethren, note those who cause divisions and offences, contrary to the doctrine which you learned, and avoid them. For those who are such do not serve our Lord Jesus Christ, but their own belly, and by smooth words and flattering speech deceive the hearts of the simple. For your obedience has become known to all. Therefore I am glad on your behalf; but I want you to be wise in what is good, and simple concerning evil. And the God of peace will crush Satan under your feet shortly. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you. Amen. (Romans 16:17-20)
