Praying Over Children

Heavenly Father I praise You for the opportunity to have been and still be a father. I praise You for giving us the miracle of children even when we lost 5 during pregnancies. Your word says: Children are a heritage from the Lord, offspring a reward from him. Like arrows in the hands of a warrior are children born in one’s youth. Psalms 127:3&4

Holy Spirit as a prayer warrior, a parent, it is my duty to follow Your word when it says: Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it. [Proverbs 22:6] This way I make the arrow as effective as I can before it takes flight. I pray daily for each of my children and their futures. I pray that You will help me to lead my children so that they can become like Caleb with a different spirit, like Deborah who judged Israel with wisdom and firmness, like David who became a man after Your heart. Help them to learn to be wise as Daniel, Meshach, Shadrach, and Abednego learned long ago. Help my children to grow in Your Spirit as Peter, John, Philip and the rest of the disciples did. Help my child to grow in wisdom, knowledge, understanding, and discernment like Paul, Silas, Barnabas, and others of the early Church. Help my child to grow and learn to divide Your word as Timothy did and then to be a leader wherever You place them.

Help me to demonstrate love, forgiveness, discipline, and faith before my children so that they can see You in me. Help my wife and I to be unified in directing, disciplining, and dreaming for our children. Help us to be honest and to teach whenever we can either with our words or with our actions. Help us to lead them so they can become adults who can stand in faith on their own, seek wisdom, and never be afraid to reach out to others who are in need. Help us to develop within them as Your word says: Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a workman who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth. Avoid godless chatter because those who indulge in it will become more and more ungodly. Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in life, in love, in faith, and purity. For God has not given us a spirit of fear but of power and love and a sound mind. [2 Timothy 2:15&16; 1 Timothy 4:12; 2 Timothy 1:7]

Praise be to You, God, and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed me in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ. For He chose me in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight. In love, he predestined me to be adopted as his son through Jesus, in accordance with His pleasure and will—to the praise of His glorious grace, which he has freely given me in the One he loves. In Him I have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God’s grace that He lavished on me with all wisdom and understanding. And He made known to me the mystery of His will according to His good pleasure, which He purposed in Christ, to be put into effect when the times will have reached their fulfillment—to bring all things in heaven and on earth together under one head, even Christ. In Him I was also chosen, having been predestined according to the plan of him who works out everything in conformity with the purpose of His will, so that I, who has the first to hope in Christ, might be for the praise of His glory. And I also was included in Christ when I heard the word of truth, the gospel of my salvation. Having believed, I am marked in Him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, who is a deposit guaranteeing my inheritance until the redemption of those who are God’s possession—to the praise of his glory. Amen. Ephesians 1:3-14
