The Prayer of Nehemiah

Should Now Be Our Prayer

Heavenly Father as Nehemiah once prayed to You, I now pray with others to stand in the gap for my country. “I beseech You, O Lord God of heaven, the great and awesome God, who keeps covenant and mercy for those who love Him and keep His commandments. Let Your ear now be attentive, and Your eyes open, that You may hear the prayer of Your servant, which I now pray before You, day and night, for my country, which was Your servants and some of us remain loyal to You. We as a nation have sinned against You and we have turned our backs on the lessons Christ taught us. We have acted corruptly against You and have not obeyed your statutes, principles, and we have been rebellious an ignored Your judgments. Please remember Your promises in Your word from Moses through to John.

We as Your adopted sons and daughters who still serve You with all of our hearts, whom You have redeemed by Your great power and by Your strong hand. O Lord, I implore You, let Your ear be attentive to the prayer of Your servant, and to the prayers of Your servants, who delight in Your name. And let us once again prosper in Your sight so that our country will turn back to You and seek You.

We ask that You would raise up a leader of virtue to lead this country and mend the hearts of many. Bring a bold leader who is wise and will lead us back to You and to the foundations of our country. Let us see justice for all people of our country and return to us hearts that are full of mercy. Teach us to love one another and to work together in unity, so that Your kingdom can be built within all of us. In Jesus’ name, amen. [Some parts were from Nehemiah 1 and much was paraphrased to fit our country and its needs now.]
