Who Am I

Let the morning bring my word of your unfailing love, for I have put my trust in you. Show me the way I should go, for to you I lift my soul. Hear my prayer, O Lord; listen to my plea! Answer me because You are faithful and righteous. Don’t put your servant on trial, for no one is innocent before you. My enemy has chased me. He has knocked me to the ground and forced me to live in darkness like those in the grave. I am losing all hope; I am paralyzed with fear. I remember the days of old. I ponder all your great works and think about what you have done. I lift my hands to you in prayer. I thirst for as parched land thirsts for rain. Come quickly, Lord, and answer me, for my depression deepens. Don’t turn away from me, or I will die. Let me hear of Your unfailing love each morning, for I am trusting You. Show me where to walk, for I give myself to You. Rescue me from my enemies, Lord; I run to you to hide me. Teach me to do Your will, for You are my God. May Your gracious Spirit lead me forward on a firm footing. For the glory of Your name, O Lord, preserve my life. Because of Your faithfulness, bring me out of this distress. In Your unfailing love, silence all my enemies and destroy all my foes, for I am Your servant. [Psalms 143:8; Psalm 143, NLT]

Holy Spirit I seek You this morning and desire to know You so that I can know who I am in the Lord. Moses asked, “Who am I that I should go to Pharaoh, and that I should bring the children of Israel out of Egypt?” Gideon said, “O my Lord, how can I save Israel? Indeed my clan is the weakest in Manasseh, and I am the least in my father’s house.” Isaiah responded, “Woe is me, for I am undone! Because I am a man of unclean lips, And I dwell among people of unclean lips;” Peter said when he first encountered Jesus, “Depart from me, for I am a sinful man, O Lord!” Finally, Paul told Timothy, “Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I chief. However, for this reason, I obtained mercy, that in me first Jesus Christ might show all longsuffering, as a pattern to those who are going to believe on Him for everlasting life.” All of these men would become very faithful servants but all started with being broken, humbled by their inadequacies, and in the Fear of the Lord. [Exodus 3:11; Judges 6:15; Isaiah 6:4; Luke 5:8; 1 Timothy 1:15]

Holy Spirit I am a man who has been broken, beaten, faced death, and suffered. I have failed often, been angry for a long time, and frustrated. I seek to know who I am in You. I desire to fulfill my purpose in life and to hold onto the hope that You placed deep within me. I pray with all that I am and I seek to renew my mind, meditate on Your word, be a living sacrifice daily for You, keep my temple clean, and be a small light in a very dark world. I ask that You give me wisdom, understanding, knowledge, and understanding so that I can bear good fruit, stand tall in my spiritual armor, and face what today brings. Bind from my anger, hatred, lack of patience, harmful words, pride, wrong desires, envy, lust, and all evil temptations that attack my mind. Help me to drink deep of the living water that I can draw from the well You have placed in my soul. Help me to be a good and faithful son and keep my eyes on heaven. Help me to be strengthened by the great cloud of witnesses that surround me and be encouraged by my brothers and sisters so that I can do Your will and find joy, love, and peace.

Therefore, as God’s chosen adopted son, holy and dearly loved, help me to clothe myself with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience. Holy Spirit help me to bear others and forgive whatever grievances I may have against others. Teach me to forgive as the Lord has forgiven me. These virtues help me to put on love which binds them all together in perfect unity. Let the peace of Christ rule in my heart, since as a member of the body I am called to peace. I will be thankful. Let the word of Christ dwell in me richly as I teach and admonish others with all wisdom, and as I sing psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs with gratitude in my heart to God. And whatever I do, whether in word or deed, help me to do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him. Amen. Colossians 3:12-17
